The collection contains mostly Lindy family letters written during and following World War II. Another portion of the collection contains letters of the Stults, Knapp, and Reinhart family members. There is a certificate of honor for a deceased soldier, 2nd Lieutenant John P. Lynch. The visual component contains Lindy family photographs, and Germann family photographs of Epinal American Military Cemetery showing Francis E. Germann's grave marker there.

Mr. and Mrs. William Wright Lindy of Gibson County, Indiana had three sons who served in the United States military during World War II. Their sons were Ivle, Calvin A., and Adrian "Buzz" Lindy. All three survived the war. Robert E. Stults was in the Navy and corresponded while in a Naval hospital. The Knapp family of Evansville, Indiana, received letters from Syl G. Gries who served in the war. Francis E. Germann was from Illinois. He was a staff sergeant in the 314th Infantry 79th Division. On...
